Dimonds Are For Lovers

By February 13, 2018 No Comments

Amy Hite & Dave Lundberg

Love is all around us and we here at The Mine are caught up in the feeling. When two lovebirds say their I dos with a pair of Dimonds, it makes our hearts beat. We asked these Dimond owners how they share the love in their life in and out of sport.

Please tell us a little bit about yourselves

Dave – Born in Bemidji, MN. Played tennis in high school and spent significant time fishing. Chemistry undergrad and PhD in Polymer Chemistry. Traveled extensively and lived in Singapore for a year setting up a manufacturing facility for his former employer. Currently a Product Development Specialist at 3M. Likes to ride his bicycle… a LOT!

Amy – Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but moved to Minnesota when she was 9 years old. Competed through Level 10 in gymnastics. Chemical Engineering degree from Iowa State and currently a Product Development Manager at 3M. IRONMAN’s have taken over the last few years, but has a huge passion for the mountains… hiking, rock and ice climbing, and high altitude mountaineering. (Eventually there will be time for everything!) Made Dave climb Aconcagua (22,834’) for honeymoon.

How did you meet?

We met through local triathlon friends and activities… specifically at a group open water swim at the St. Croix River in the summer of 2008.

Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day?

Amy has a 4am alarm that day. Breakfast & COFFEE. 1:35 interval bike followed by 30 min interval brick run. Shower and scramble to get to work by 7:45am for first meeting. Dave will try to keep up and hopefully acquire some dark chocolate.

What is your favorite couples destination race and why?

We probably have to say Kona.  We raced there together in 2016. In 2017 Dave raced again, while Amy had a quality training week. And we both re-qualified at IRONMAN Wisconsin in 2017 so will be on the start line together again this October.

We have plans to do IRONMAN New Zealand in 2019, though, as it falls on Amy’s birthday, so we’ll see if Kona holds the lead after that…

How do you make it work balancing work, family, and training?

We both work full-time at 3M and commute together, when our different training schedules allow. Dave’s kids are grown. (He recently welcomed a grandson!) Our two cats, Monte and Jasper, do complain about our busy work and training schedule, but they are all in for power naps.

What races do you each have planned for 2018?

IRONMAN Boulder, Wisconsin, Kona, and Arizona… with a few smaller local races thrown into the mix.

What is your biggest triathlon achievement?

We have 45 IRONMAN completions between the two of us.

What gets you out of bed every morning?

Either the alarm clock… or a cat wanting attention.

Thanks Amy and Dave!
